Description
Nep Nep – 50g and 100g
Nep Nep, also known as Piliostigma reticulatum, is a traditional ingredient from West African pharmacopoeia and cuisine. Powdered or used in pieces, this natural condiment is appreciated for its slightly bitter flavor and purifying properties. In West Africa, it is often used in the preparation of the famous Soumbala but also in néré sauces or in some fermented soups.
This product is made up of fragments of bark harvested at maturity and then dried naturally. It gives off a woody, earthy, sometimes smoky scent, reminiscent of the authentic flavors of village dishes. Simply soak it, extract the juice or add it directly to the cooking process to release its aromas.
Traditionally, it is combined with other fermented condiments such as néré or netetou. It is also used for its medicinal properties. Indeed, it is believed to have digestive, detoxifying and even antiparasitic effects in some cultures. Although its taste may be surprising, it brings a unique depth to spicy dishes.
This product is available in 50g or 100g sachets, for occasional or regular use. It is suitable for homemade African cuisine, attentive to the original flavors. To get the most out of it, store it in a closed jar, away from moisture.
A rare spice, to be integrated into your dishes to find the original flavors.
